Well, I started to think about what type of film genre to choose for our film project. Not only that but this project has also given me a chance to do something else which I enjoy - composing. Due to the restrictions this year on only being able to use non-copyrighted music, I am stepping up to the challenge to create a movie soundtrack.
Obviously depending on the genre of film, the soundtrack would have to be written accordingly. For example, a horror movie would include a minor key, fast crescendo's and fast melodies, to drive on and raise the tension. It would also be home to cluster chords and a lot more other features are included. Meanwhile in a romance movie, the soundtrack would be mostly instrumentated by a string section, with sweeping rythms and warm sounds and slow tempo, while an action film soundtrack would include a fast tempo and quite snappy riffs. I have already taken my hand to an example Action Film Theme. An example can be found here http://www.filefactory.com/file/ah9e4g5/n/FilmTheme_wav
An idea I had for the film project, using 'horror' as the theme, there are several possible extreme close-ups of certain key images, such as a hand on a door knob, a wide open eye, sweat dripping down the forehead of a character, looking down the barrel of a gun, hands covered in blood being dragged out of shot.... Just a few of the many ideas I have stored in my head. These images all give very hostile connotations and are ambiguous to their meanings but are all very weird and freaky images. I would also imagine that the begining of this horror film would maybe be shot in black and white and not in colour, to connotate that this image sequence is possibly a dream, not in reality or maybe just a memory.
